The Electra Verses the Grande North - Part II

by Stephanie Erickson 14. September 2010 14:55

ConservatoryWelcome back to my blog….I was talking to a client the other day and he asked about the differences in the condo community’s downtown. I told him that he needed to read my first blog and see if that would help him with some of his questions. Well we also went over to the Grande North and to the Electra….and I pointed out some of the differences you read about in my “First Blog”.

Speaking of differences, one of our first downtown condo communities was the Harbor Club. They just finished a fabulous remake of their common area space. The pool landscaping, new outdoor furniture and so much more as been done. It looks great. I would suggest that if you know anyone that lives there go visit and check it out. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Ok, back to The Grande and Electra. I think one of the most noticeable differences is the size of the units. The Grande has a higher percentage of larger units then the Electra. Most of the Electra townhomes are smaller with less outdoor space then the townhomes at The Grande.pool You do have to remember that the foot print of the Grande is a lot larger than the Electra.

When building the Electra developer, (Bosa Development) had to stay within some very tight parameters. The original San Diego Gas & Electric Co. was the shell for the community. With its ornate detailing, interesting color and wonderful interior …it just stands out. You’ll find a few agents that don’t like the building and seem to be pretty critical of it…..but they don’t live here and really don’t know the day to day pleasures we know….

But I do have to go back to the fabulous historical aspect of the Electra…with its amazing conservatory and beautiful architecture. All I can say is we loved living in the Grande and we certainly love living in Electra.

The Electra verses the Grand North - Part I

by Stephanie Erickson 26. July 2010 16:09

Grande Towers I thought I’d start my first blog with personal experience…… which of course is always a very entertaining blog…

When I moved two years ago into the Electra in the Columbia District, I was asked by quite a few of my clients and friends “Which building do you like the best”?   Good question since I had also lived in the Grande North for two years before that.  As a matter of fact I get those questions about all the different condo communities here in downtown San Diego.  But let’s stay with the question about the Electra and the Grande.

Every condo community is different.  Electra Tower The Electra has that fabulous conservatory with it’s over the top décor, lighting, and design.  It’s a wonderful room for weddings, large parties and special events…. And still has small alcoves that work well for small gatherings and business meetings. It has a beautiful historic location that cannot be duplicated again.  It is a “One of a kind”.

The Grande has a large and spacious pool common area with barbeques and seating for large parties or small.  The Grande pool area is a great place to meet and greet since it has all the amenities’ for outdoors in one area.  There’s a larger gym at The Grande with more room for more owners to enjoy.  The Grande also has a larger number of units that have greater square footage then the Electra.

This might be hard to understand but because of how the elevators at the Grande go from the parking garage, then to the first floor lobby and up,  you see more people since so many are on foot and come in through the lobby to the elevators.  The Grande seems to be more of a social building.   Now the Electra is also a social and fun building but ….pay attention, the parking garage has 3 levels above the  first floor so you could come into the garage, go up to your condo and never see anyone coming from the first floor lobby or the entrance of the building.  I guess you need to live it to understand it.

The Electra doesn’t have the constant noise of the compressors from the trains at night.  Not to say that the Electra doesn’t enjoy the wonderful and exciting hum of the urban life with the cars, trains and boats daily, just not the issue of the humming at night and maybe a few more horns tooting…. Someday in the further…. (The Quite Zone) will fix that.

If you would like more information on The Grande or Electra,  please give me a call at 619-933-3292 or email me. Stephanie@StephanieErickson.com
